-----My name
is Paul "Põhaku" Staub; I lived in Hawai'i
for over twenty five years. I started my art career, in a
way, in the late 1980's when I picked up a camera and started
to document rock groups that were performing in Waikiki. I
then moved back to Seattle and dabbled in the music business.
I also ran my own photography studio there. Upon returning
to Hawaii in 1999, I decided to pursue a career in fine art.
I had just that year started to experiment with oil paints.
I have subsequently immersed my self in the fine art world.
My wife and I relocated to Poway California in June of 2010.
-----I
have been a practicing fine artist since 1991. I have an art
degree from the University of Hawaii Manoa as well as a graduate
degree in museum studies. I worked closely with the Director
of the Koa Gallery
at Kapi'olani Community College for almost 10 years. I
worked as an exhibit designer and preparator at the Exhibition
Space at 1132 Bishop street, in Honolulu, since its inception
in 2002, through 2009. I also worked as a praparator and graphic
designer at the Mission
Houses Museum, where I was an integral part of the exhibit
design team. I also designed shows and managed the web site
for the Association
of Hawaii Artists from 2008 to 2010.
-----I
spend a good amount of my time in Europe, where I have pieces
in collections in both Germany and France. I also have work
in collections in the United States and Canada. I Paint mostly
in oil, do traditional and digital photography, sculpt both
stone and wood and weld steel. I hope you like my work.
"Good art creates a dialog with the viewer....even
when the viewer does not understand
it or even like
it!" - Paul
